I often have moments where I see people in public and think, "you look really familiar..." and then go home and look at some wedding reception photos and realize, oh, they were a guest at that wedding. Recently, my husband saw me editing Chase & Katie's wedding and said, "That guy looks so familiar!" As it turns out, they lived on the same floor of their USC dorm freshman year of college. I texted my friend Devon Donahoo Luce, who I shot this wedding with, and we realized she had been in their dorm building a lot visiting friends who lived there as well. SO funny seeing all these connections come about with a couple I hadn't met before their big day!
We started the day with Katie and her bridesmaids getting ready at Salon 705 in Downtown Beaufort and Chase and his groomsmen at the Hilton Garden Inn. Katie and the girls had a lovely brunch while they had hair and makeup done, with mimosas, fruits, and yummy wraps--an excellent idea to make the morning fun but also ensure you eat enough during the day! The guys all had lunch together before heading up to their hotel suite to get dressed before the first look. We headed over to the Beaufort Open Land & Trust for first look and portraits before the ceremony, which is one of my favorite spots to be in downtown. The Spanish moss, beautiful marsh views, and quiet atmosphere make it the perfect spot to relax while capturing some beautiful wedding portraits, whether before or after the ceremony.
Once we finished with first look, bride and groom, and bridal party portraits, we headed over to Baptist Church of Beaufort for a sweet ceremony. I love a good creative challenge, and due to some rules at the church about where photographers can be, I was working exclusively from the balcony, and having that unique overhead angle made photographing the ceremony a really fun new challenge for me.
The night ended with a lovely reception at Southern Graces Soiree, and I was so excited to get to work in that wedding venue because I had seen it while we were visiting Beaufort trying to decide if we wanted to live here, and told Drew I was adding it to my wedding bucket list. It's beautiful and small, perfect for a more intimate indoor wedding reception, and the unique lighting sets a romantic mood for dinner and dancing. Chase and Katie's cake was DELICIOUS and I am still drooling over their grits bar a year and a half later. Southern Graces Catering knocked it out of the park!
With such a beautiful couple and wonderful venues to work with, I so enjoyed photographing this wedding, and I can't wait to work with all of these great vendors again soon!
